Abstract

In this study, Bulgaria's transition from Communist Totalitarian Regime to Multi-Party Democratic system was evaluated. The effects of internal and external dynamics were investigated in this transition. The main purpose of this study, which is based on the literature review covers, how the democratization process of Bulgaria, which started with the Tarnovo Constitution, was stopped by the transition to a totalitarian regime and how the democratization process of Bulgaria began in 1989 with the dissolution of the Soviet Union. In this context; how the communist regime found solid ground in Bulgaria, the single-party practices of Todor Zhivkov, the assimilation process of the Bulgarian Turks and their role in the transition to democracy, the transition to the 1991 constitution and the multi-party system was evaluated. Despite the transition to the Democratic system of Bulgaria, it was concluded that full efficiency was not attained and the democratization process is still continuing.
